SoTeRiA Lab Director and NPRE Associate Professor Zahra Mohaghegh has been selected to serve as a member of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Committee on “Improving the Efficiency and Effectiveness of the Coast Guard Certificate of Compliance Examination Program for Gas Carriers.” The focus of this committee is to provide solutions for the U.S. Coast Guard for increasing efficiency and safety of the Compliance Examination program in the face of increasing Liquified Gas Carrier activity. These risk-based solutions will consider the age of each vessel in conjunction with its inspection and accident history to produce vessel-specific examination programs.
Professor Mohaghegh has also previously served on the committee for “Transport Airplane Risk Assessment Methodology.” This committee assessed the risk assessment methodologies of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and resulted in the Consensus Report “Evaluation of the Transport Airplane Risk Assessment Methodology“
