Justin Taylor Valentino

Justin Valentino is currently a Research Affiliate for Strategic Innovation at the SoTeRiA Research Laboratory.
Justin is also the founder of Organizational Informatics LLC (2020–present), where he serves as lead consultant, workshop facilitator, fractional executive (COO, CCO, CQO), and scientific advisor to organizations in agriculture, logistics, food processing and manufacturing, green infrastructure, functional medicine, technology, organizational culture, and training/education.
Justin earned his PhD from the Illinois Informatics Institute at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign under Prof. Zahra Mohaghegh. His dissertation and subsequent publications pioneered the explicit theorizing, modeling, and quantification of human and organizational factors—safety culture, training quality, systematic approaches to training, human performance data, management processes, and organizational failure mechanisms—in Integrated Probabilistic Risk Assessment (I-PRA) of nuclear power plants. He also supported Level 3 PRA research, including offsite consequence modeling of socially vulnerable populations and supporting risk-informed emergency planning and preparedness. While at SoTeRiA Laboratory (2013–2020), he contributed to the design, writing, and successful funding of numerous research projects sponsored by the DOE, NSF, IAEA, and industry partners. As a continuing Research Affiliate at the SoTeRiA Laboratory, he co-develops methodologies and supports ongoing projects and initiatives.
Blending scientific depth with pragmatic, hands-on execution, Justin delivers high-impact strategic visioning and business planning, agile process implementation, compliance and management system design, operational alignment, and targeted scientific advising—enabling leadership teams and principal investigators to gain clarity, remove systemic friction, secure critical resources, and achieve sustainable, high-traction results.
