Biography

George earned a B.S. in nuclear engineering from the Oregon State University, located in Corvallis, OR, back in 2015. Upon graduation, he was fortunate to have his internship at NuScale Power elevated into a full-time position, where he worked on the team responsible for modeling effluent release and pathways for their SMR design. After a few years, George parted ways with NuScale Power. After a sabbatical, George earned an MBA from Gonzaga University, located in Spokane, WA, in 2019. Not long after, the Covid pandemic shutdowns began, which complicated efforts to find an occupation to which he could apply his new degree. Eventually, George found employment as an anti-money laundering analyst, essentially making sure that individuals were not using financial services for illicit or illegal activities. After a few years of this work, George decided that he would rather return to the nuclear field, which would require a return to academia. The NPRE program at University of Illinois became the destination for George, combining multiple different factors together to make it the correct and best choice for him. George is just starting his first year as a Ph.D. student in the department, being supervised by Professor Mohaghegh in the Risk and Reliability group. His first major research project with the University involves developing a better understanding of Risk-Informed, Performance- Based ideas in a licensing setting for advanced nuclear reactor designs. Outside of school, George enjoys cooking and strategy games, such as chess or the Civilization game series.
