Biography

Austin King is currently an undergraduate student in the Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering (NPRE) Department at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) with the degree concentration of Power and Safety. In addition, he plans to supplement his degree with a minor in Data Science. Austin is also actively taking courses related to Probabilistic Risk Assessment, taking NPRE 461 (Probabilistic Risk Assessment) in Fall 2025 and NPRE 561 (Advanced Risk Analysis for Technological Systems) in Spring 2026.

Austin joined the research lab in January of 2025 as a freshman, and his current research focus is aiding in development regarding a better understanding of Risk-Informed, Performance- Based ideas in a licensing setting for advanced nuclear reactor designs.
